The Civil Rights Act of 1957 created the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Established as an independent, bipartisan, fact-finding federal agency, its mission is to inform the development of national civil rights policy and enhance enforcement of federal civil rights laws. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights pursue this mission by studying alleged deprivations of voting rights and alleged discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, or national origin, or in the administration of justice.
All Civil Rights government publications in paper form, are located on the 1st floor of the Harvey Library, opposite the Circulation Desk and microfiche is on the 2nd floor. The Government Documents Collection has a number of Commission on Civil Rights general publications and reports. Civil Rights Commission briefings (CR 1.8/2:) examines issues such as disparities, affirmative action, and discrimination. Clearinghouse publications (CR 1.10:) Include reports about various civil rights issues. Civil Rights Digest (CR 1.12:) reports on current civil rights developments. (CR 1.17:) Civil Rights Journal Quarterly magazine with articles on a variety of civil rights concerns.
Circulation Policy
1. Civil Rights/Government Documents materials can be borrowed/checked out for 14 days
2. The borrower is responsible for the return of all materials on the date due
3. Borrowers who do not return materials will first be notified and then if not returned, there will be fines and other charges for overdue materials in accordance with the Circulation Policy of the Harvey Library.
