Only currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff of Hampton University.

Your information must be current at the Circulation Desk prior to signing up for an account.

From the ILL/ILLiad page, choose "First Time User" and follow the instructions. Please only use your HU e-mail address when signing up. You should receive a confirmation that your account has been set up.

Make sure that the Harvey Library does not own the item by checking 
Find Books and More or Ejournal Finder.

Books can take anywhere from 1 to 8 weeks. Journals can take anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks.

10 per week. However, no more than two articles from the same journal may be requested.

You will receive an e-mail saying your book is available for pick up at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of Harvey Library

You can pick up books at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of the Harvey Library. Most articles will be sent electronically and can be retrieved by going to your ILLIAD account and clicking on the link View/Download Electronically Received Articles. Occasionally article copies may have to be picked up at the Circulation Desk.

Your request may be cancelled for the following reasons:

Books, journal articles, chapters from books, theses/dissertations, and items that are owned by Harvey Library but declared lost or missing. Some materials may not be available by ILL.

Most Interlibrary loans are free, however many libraries charge a fee for Interlibrary Loan. Harvey Library will not request materials that have fees

  • WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF MY INTERLIBRARY LOAN REQUEST IS CANCELLED?
    • Incorrect citation.
    • There are materials that are available through the Harvey Library online databases.
    • Your Library Account with the Circulation Department is blocked because of fees or fines.
    • Copyright fee - Harvey Library cannot request items that have fees.
    • The article or book is not available at participating libraries.
  • HOW DO I RENEW MY INTERLIBRARY LOAN ITEMS?
  • WHAT TYPES OF MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE BY INTERLIBRARY LOAN?
  • IS IT FREE?

Please Note:

You are liable for any overdue, lost, or damaged items.The amount of that liability is determined by the lending library. We will communicate directly with the student, faculty, or staff member who borrowed the materials.

If this effort to retrieve the ILL materials is not successful, a written letter will be sent to the office of the Dean of Men or Dean of Women or in the case of faculty and staff, the Department Chair or Unit Head. Unpaid fees are passed on to the Business Office and placed on the Student Account. A block is placed at the Library on borrowing privileges.
