How do I find Peer Reviewed or Scholarly articles?

  •  Some databases offer the option of limiting search to peer reviewed journals and will allow you to select for "peer-reviewed" results only.
  • To find a peer-reviewed article in a database, look for a check box near the search box for Peer-Review or Scholarly Journals.
  • This will limit your search to articles in scholarly journals,.

What are Peer Reviewed/Scholarly Articles?

CHARACTERISTICS OF "SCHOLARLY" ARTICLES/ PEER - REVIEWED ARTICLES:

articles evaluated by individuals in the same field with the same level of education.

Formal in format, based on academic research, and maintaining an academic standard of quality.

Authors are scholars and researchers in the field and are identified with credentials.

Purpose of the article is to publish the results of research.

Usually follow format: abstract, introduction, discussion and references sources that are cited with footnotes or a bibliography at the end of the article.

Publisher may be a professional organization, research institution - usually not-for-profit.

Very little to no advertising.

Graphics are usually statistical illustrations, in black-and-white.
